The new training hall at ALPHA TTK in Mosta is now officially open. This official opening event, held on the 7th July 2023, under the patronage of Hon Min Julia Farrugia Portelli, Hon Graziella Galea, Hon Graham Bencini and Mr Kevin Azzopardi.
Official opening welcome address
Welcoming the honorary guests and club members, ALPHA TTK coach and administrator Katia Mifsud, spoke about the giant leaps which the club has achieved in just 4 years of operation. Also considering the covid period which closed down the club for a considerable time during its early stages, the club has managed to continually expand and offer bigger and better services to the members and general public. The sole aim of the club is to promote the sport of table tennis at all levels. In her passionate speech she gave thanks to all club members who have supported and believed in this project. This is now “another of our dreams come true, with this space that is available 24/7 for those who would like to practice the sport in such high-quality equipped premises”.
Mr Kevin Azzopardi, General Secretary of the Maltese Olympic Committee could not have put it in better words:
“To succeed, one needs to dream big!”
and this is precisely what the club has done since opening it’s doors.
Mr Azzopardi stressed how sport is there for our well-being. He described this hall as a true witness to what sports is all about! By being within the community with a state of the art facility that will be available 24/7 to all.
The Hon Graham Bencini, Shadow Minister for Sport, augured all the club members success in their sport activities. He also praised the club for providing such “fantastic facilities”.
He spoke about the importance of investing in such facilities for the formation and growth of elite athletes. This will all assist those athletes who are the representatives of our country in the sport.
Furthermore, it is also a fantastic opportunity for the general community to have access to such facilities.
The Hon Graziella Galea, Shadow Minister for Inclusion and Voluntary Sector, praised the club for providing such facilities that offer a space for all to meet together and practice table tennis.
She commended the club for the support being given to persons with Parkinson’s Disease. She augured that the official opening of this new space will be the beginning of more initiatives for social inclusion.
The Hon Julia Farrugia Portelli, Minister for Inclusion and Social Wellbeing, closed the official ceremony by thanking all the club members and their families.
Praising the efforts being done by the club in particular with supporting persons with Parkinson’s Disease. The Minister also commended all the efforts being done to bring sport closer to the general community. Her closing remarks were:
“sports is a beautiful language which unites us and drives us to be better citizens”.
Official opening: the dream come true!
The ALPHA TTK committee would like to thank all those who supported this project including Alberta Group, Calleja Ltd and Global Group. With tables permanently set up for the sport of table tennis, this hall now is the only facility of its kind in Malta. All equipment including the tables, flooring and lighting are up to official ITTF international standards. The hall is open 24/7 for training sessions, tournaments, training camps, group social events. It is also a place for friends to meet up and play table tennis.
